Nyack is a scenic Hudson River village, known for its charm, ethnic and cultural diversity, and Victorian-era homes. Named by the Algonquin Indians, Nyack means “point of land”, also “good fishing place”. Nyack was transformed from 1600’s fishing, farming and shipping industries to boutique shops, street fairs, farmers’ markets, playhouses, music venues, and restaurants catering to everyone’s tastes. Though Nyack occupies only about 2 square miles, Nyack residents enjoy their “walking village” with its many restaurants, shops, cafes, theaters, and parks. Helen Hayes, first lady of the American theatre, is one of many famous people having called it home through the years. Others include Edward Hopper, Jonathan Demme, and Rosie O’Donnell.
